Bio and Research

Anise Bowman is a doctoral student at the University of Maryland, College Park studying cellular and molecular biology. She is a part of the Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices where her research focuses on genetic engineering of bacteria to interact with microelectronic devices. Anise received her Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry and Environmental Studies with a focus on infectious disease at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). Anise also attended CWRU’s School of Medicine where she pursued her medical degree. While there she was inspired to move her focus from patient care to research of the infectious pathogens that plagued the patients she encountered. In addition to her professional goals, one of Anise’s hopes is to provide Black students with the representation and network of connections that help them to thrive in any field they would like to pursue.
